A moody and engaging love story with some grim art house flair from the director of Last Resort. When young Mona (Press) meets Tamsin (Blunt) in their very small, conservative English town, they fall in love instantly and finally gain some excitement within their previously ‘boring’ lives. It isn’t easy to keep their relationship a secret and though Pawlikowski doesn’t give the audience much insight into the true nature of these characters, it is their mystery that makes the worn-out premise much more intriguing. Press and Blunt have amazing chemistry and they act with a refreshing carelessness. Blending sexy and sinister, My Summer of Love is a very mature and bittersweet tale – * * *
