R. 92 mins

A clever satire on the lobbyists and political hypocrisy that dominates our culture. Aaron Eckhart brilliantly portrays Nick Naylor, a lobbyist for tobacco companies who has been dubbed ‘The Sultan of Spin’ for his ability to talk his way out of almost anything. Reitman has adapted this politically incorrect tale from Christopher Buckley’s novel of the same name and he is careful to let audiences think for themselves on all the polarizing issues presented here. Thank You For Smoking is a painfully sharp criticism of the media which has enough humour to make a film centred on such depressing subjects as greed, freedom of choice, greed and accountability actually quite an enjoyable experience – * * * 1/2
