Emotionally powerful and relentless in it’s intensity – Revolutionary Road is a dark tale of what happens when we cannot escape the boxes we put ourselves in. In their first reunion since Titanic, Winslet and DiCaprio give haunting performances but it’s Shannon who really shines as the mental patient who sees through all the smoke and mirrors of suburban life. While it’s not as successful as Mendes’ Oscar-winner American Beauty, it’s safe to say that this portrait of ‘The American Dream’ uses much of the same milieu but touches on some very troubling subjects. With Thomas Newman’s brilliant score, the comparisons between the two films are to be expected. Revolutionary Road a mesmerizing look at the ugly desperation experienced by many – * * * *
