PG-13. 123 mins

A charming treat that could have used some more salt along with the sweet. Adapted from Julie Powell’s autobiographical book in which she attempts to  cook 524 recipes in one year, using only her small kitchen and Julia Child’s famed cookbook. The film travels back and forth between Julie’s apartment and Julia’s beginnings as an amateur chef in Paris and her rise to fame as the loveable queen of cookery. The film is heartwarming and the performances are great but the two stories seem disjointed and viewers might find themselves wishing the film focused just one story instead of two. Julie & Julia will make you smile but it lacks that dramatic bite some of us might be searching for with such a fascinating female as it’s subject matter – * * *
