Mr. Nobody (2009)

Starring: Jared Leto, Diane Kruger, Sarah Polley, Linh-Dan Pham, Natasha Little, Rhys Ifans

Directed by: Jaco van Dormael

UR. 148 mins

Belgian director Jaco van Dormael crafted this unique vision that contains influences from all over the Western world. Mr. Nobody is quite an interesting experiment that tells the tale of a man (Jared Leto) who, on his deathbed, dreams of all the lives he may have led. With an almost three-hour length and questions that are still left unanswered, the film’s downfall is that it is far too ambitious. There are so many climaxes in this film that I often becomes frustrating and overwhelming to piece all the stories together. Dormael succeeds in making every second of this film meaningful and visually engaging, though and it’s a fantasy that will make audiences ponder their past and future. With strong acting and the strong romantic themes, Mr. Nobody isn’t perfect but it’s a very special treat – * * * *
