The Artist (2011)

Starring: Jean Dujardin, Bérénice Bejo, James Cromwell, John Goodman, Missi Pyle

Directed by: Michel Hazanavicius

PG-13. 100 mins.

Simple and charming, The Artist is a silent film that contemporary audiences can enjoy. Dujardin and Bejo give such pure and joyous performances, while Hazanavicius’ “less-is-more” direction adds to the unique experience. Although the film is adorable, it does drag through some parts (not unexpected, given the premise). The upbeat finale is the cherry on top of a deliciously old-fashioned homage to an era long forgotten by today’s 3D-loving world – * * * 1/2
