Directed by: Chris Sanders & Kirk De Micco

PG. 92 mins

A charming adventure with some impressive visuals, thoughtful insight and plenty of spirit. After their cave is destroyed, the Croods are forced to explore the world outside of their comfort zone. With primitive patriarch Grug’s (Nicolas Cage) fear of change combined with his daughter Eep’s (Emma Stone) desire for adventure, it appears that this journey could be a bumpy one. It soon becomes clear that the world as they know it is coming to an end but with the help of a nomad named Guy (Ryan Reynolds), the Croods might be able to survive the Ice Age – and each other! The 3D work on display here is flawless and while this family flick may not enter the pantheon of other animated classics, the pacing and personality make this one a surprisingly moving and often hilarious experience. It’s no Neolithic knockout, but The Croods has something for everybody – * * *
